CINCINNATI  (April 17, 2012) –The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is sponsoring an e-waste recycling drive to collect and recycle unwanted electronic waste from guests of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical and the local community during the Zoo’s Party for the Planet Earth Day celebration on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. 

All electronics will be recycled by 2trg, a certified recycler that operates under zero landfill and zero export policies.  Data storage devices will be sanitized according to NIST SP 800-88 standards. A complete list of acceptable items is available on 2trg’s website, www.2trg.com.  A $10 cash fee will be charged for each TV.  All other acceptable items will be recycled for free. 

Acceptable items include cables, CD-ROM drives, cellular phones, circuit boards, computer speakers, CPUs, CRT monitors, docking stations, DVD players, fax machines, hard drives, keyboards, laptops, LCD monitors, mainframes, mice, microwaves, modems, PDAs, personal copiers, printers, processor chips, scanners, servers, speakers, tape and disc drives, telephones, televisions, terminals, and VCR players.  Appliances, batteries, and light bulbs will not be accepted.  Any cellular phones collected will be donated to the Zoo’s Project Saving Species cell phone recycling program.

A convenient drive-thru drop-off station will be available to Zoo guests at the additional Zoo parking lot located at the corner of Vine Street and Erkenbrecher Avenue.  The lot is across from the main entrance and Vine Street parking lot.  Zoo guests can drop off items between 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and then proceed to the Vine Street parking lot to park and enter the Zoo.  Admission is free after 5:00 p.m.  Parking is $8.00. 

Zoo guests are encouraged to attend the free Tunes and Blooms Concert as well as the Zoo’s Earth Day Celebration, Party for the Planet, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
