Vinegaroon

Mastigoproctus giganteus

This nocturnal arachnid is also called a whip scorpion, but is only distantly related to true scorpions and cannot sting. When threatened, it sprays an 80% vinegar (acetic acid) solution from a pore near the base of its whip-like ‘tail.’ The strong fumes irritate moist eye and nose tissue, and encourage enemies to quickly retreat.
