Fabulous-Furs Makes Custom Faux Fur Vests for Cincinnati Zoo

CINCINNATI – (March 14, 2013) The Cincinnati Zoo has partnered with the local company, Donna Salyers’ Fabulous-Furs, to outfit its human gorilla surrogate team with realistic faux fur vests and coats.  Surrogates will be wearing these vests while holding and attending to the Zoo’s new baby gorilla, “Gladys.”

Preparing for Spring

Spring is right around the corner, and we’re getting ready for warm weather and more visitors.  We’ve been working hard during the colder months to improve the Zoo.  Giraffe Ridge and the new and improved Base Camp Café will reopen in the next few weeks.  The new 4,500-square-foot Peacock Pavilion will be available for rental starting in April.   Africa will open at the end of June.

CINCINNATI – (March 1, 2013) The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is excited to announce that its 4 –week-old, female, baby gorilla officially has a name – “Gladys Stones!”  The Zoo’s Primate Keepers thought this was the perfect way to honor the Gladys Porter Zoo (GPZ), in Brownsville, Texas, where the baby was born.  And, the Zoo’s Facebook fans agreed, with dozens of people suggesting Gladys.  Zoo Keepers also decided to give Gladys the last name “Stones” to recognize…

Baby Gorilla Receives Around-the-Clock Care

CINCINNATI – (February 26, 2013) The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is turning humans into temporary gorilla moms.  Over the next several months, the Zoo will use human surrogates to mimic gorilla behavior with the ultimate goal to get a 4-week-old gorilla baby in the hands of a gorilla surrogate.   These human surrogates will feed the gorilla.  They will hold the baby to their chest and eventually carry her on…

CINCINNATI – (January 10, 2013) The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden’s Lindner Center for Conservation & Research of Endangered Wildlife (CREW) is excited to announce the Zoo’s last birth of 2012 – an endangered Brazilian ocelot kitten.  The kitten was born on December 31, 2012 following an artificial insemination (AI) with freshly-collected semen from the Zoo’s resident male ocelot, “Monsieur.”
