The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is the only place in the world where Sumatran rhinos – one of the rarest species on earth – are on exhibit to the public. Sumatran rhinos are deep forest dwelling animals that spend hot days submerged in mud wallows.

To provide the highest standard of care for these amazing animals, the Cincinnati Zoo staff has built special shade structures over the exhibit yard to protect the rhinos from too much sunlight that can hurt their eyes. Additionally, mud wallows have been added to the yards using a special mix of dirt that the rhinos love, and a pool with waterfall are included in which the rhinos can bathe. Visitors to the exhibit can watch the rhinos as they enjoy their special, custom built outdoor exhibit at the Cincinnati Zoo.
