July 27 - 28, 2013
Join the Zoo in celebrating and conserving wildlife during the Act Wild for Rhinos weekend. This special Act Wild conservation weekend is designed to spotlight these very important species and the problems they face, as well as give visitors an opportunity to get involved.
Visitors can learn about endangered rhinos through family activities, crafts, discovery stations, rhino animal encounters, and special animal demonstrations.
Rhinos are charismatic mega-herbivores that play key roles in their ecosystems. Eating plants and dispersing their seeds promotes the healthy growth of vegetation and helps to maintain the savannahs and forests in Africa and Asia. Despite their significance, strength, and tenacity, rhinos are losing ground. Habitat loss and poaching for their horns threaten their survival.
