CINCINNATI (June 21, 2019) – The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden’s  Pollen Nation will be on hand tomorrow morning to teach kids about the importance of pollinators in a fun and interactive way!  Grab your honey and bee at the Zoo from 9am to noon for the Pollinator Carnival, sponsored by Simple Truth.

“It seems that more and more people are aware that bees and other pollinators are crucial to a healthy ecosystem,” said Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden’s Manager of Botanical Garden Outreach, Scott Beuerlein. “We want to make sure that kids are getting that message and give them something to take home and nurture.”

Kids will receive a pollinator passport that they can get stamped at learning stations around the Zoo. The stations will have fun activities and information about pollinators and how to grow pollinator-friendly gardens at home. Turn in a fully-stamped passport to receive a pollinator-friendly plant or seeds to take home. (While supplies last.)

“We hope the carnival will inspire more kids, and their parents, to plant a pollinator garden at home and become part of our Plant for Pollinators Challenge,” said Beuerlein.  “It’s easy and can be done in three steps.  Plan your garden, select your plants, and register your garden on the Zoo’s Plant for Pollinators Challenge web page.”

The Zoo launched its pollinator challenge in April with the goal to have 500 registered gardens by the end of 2019.  As of today, 621 gardens have been registered!! The new goal is 1000.

This event is free with Zoo admission. The Zoo opens daily at 10 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m.  Cincinnati Zoo members enjoy early entry at 9 a.m.  For more information visit www.cincinnatizoo.org.
