Just like how a manatee will never pass up a tasty sea lettuce salad, you are most suited to choose organic or sustainable produce. Organic groceries do not use fertilizers or chemical pesticides which reduces run-off from agriculture areas and polluted water that eventually reaches manatees off the coast!
What does the Cincinnati Zoo do for Manatees?
The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is one of two U.S. Zoos outside of Florida that participate in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP). The goal of the program is to rescue and treat ill, injured and orphaned manatees and then release them back into the wild. Trackers are placed on the manatees at release to assess the health of the manatees and ensure they adapt to their environment. The Cincinnati Zoo is proud to say they have rehabilitated 19 manatees!
