Cincinnati Zoo Brings Awwwe-some Zoo Babies to You!
Popular May celebration moves online
CINCINNATI, OH (May 1, 2020) – May at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden has always been a time to celebrate Zoo Babies, presented by First Financial Bank. This year, since the Zoo is temporarily closed, the stork will have to deliver the babies to people at home via virtual chats, programs, videos, and calls.
“It’s a shame that visitors can’t come to the Zoo to see these adorable baby faces,” said Cincinnati Zoo director Thane Maynard. “We will do our best, however, to bring the babies to them. I will be hosting a Home Safari featuring baby American alligator Cruncher this Sunday at 3 p.m.”
Several other Facebook Live Home Safaris this month will include visits with little ones like Lucille the bearcat, Adana the bongo, giraffes Theo and Fenn, Kris the cheetah, and the perpetual baby Fiona! You won’t want to miss the special wallaby Home Safari that the Zoo will bring to you when the joey in mama Ava’s pouch starts to peek out!
Some of the babies will also be incorporated into the new Virtual Zoo Troop program that starts Monday, May 4. The 4-week-long classes are designed for toddlers through 8th graders and provide, educational, wildlife rich experiences designed to develop knowledge and life skills. And they’re fun!
“We can’t wait to welcome people back to the Zoo, but we’ll stay connected in other ways until that’s possible,” said Maynard. “We’re finding creative ways to bring the Zoo to people at home and learning as we go!”
The Zoo launched another virtual program yesterday. Companies can now invite Zoo animals to a video conferences withCincinnati ZOOm calls! Funds raised via Cincinnati ZOOm meetings, Cameos, and Home Safari donations go directly to the Zoo’s Emergency Operating Fund.
