National Insect Week

Buzz on over to the zoo for National Insect Week July 7-13 to celebrate insects with us!

This fun, hands-on event is designed with kids in mind but is truly for curious critter-lovers of all ages. Whether you’re a budding entomologist, a pollinator plant enthusiast, or just a fan of six-legged creatures, there’s something here for you!

Explore the incredible world of insects and discover the tiny marvels that make a big impact on our planet. From the dazzling displays of butterfly aviary to the intricate ecosystems of leaf cutter ants, there’s something for every bug enthusiast. Get up close and personal with a variety of animals, enjoy informational booths and learn from our expert keepers about the crucial roles these creatures play in our environment.  Join us for a week of (not so) creepy-crawly fun!

Guests can purchase a Cincinnati Zoo plush and enjoy a “dirt cup” at Mai Thai’s Market in the Grab & Go area!

Bioblitz

Participate in our Bioblitz for a chance to Win a behind the scenes tour at the World of the Insect (come inside the World of the Insect for more details).

Enjoy a dirt cup at Savannah Ice Cream as well as Mai Thai Market in the Grab n Go area

  • Visit us inside the World of the Insect at our booths to learn more about Insects and how you can help!
  • Create your very own insect button inside World of the Insect
  • Keeper chats with one of our World of the Insect Keepers at 11:00am.
    • Meet real six-legged ambassadors up close at 11am each day!
  • Leaf Cutter Ant chat at 12:50pm inside World of the Insect
  • Random animal encounters in World of the Insect
  • Design your very own insect-themed button to take home
  • Antennae Headbands – Craft your own buggy accessory and transform into your favorite insect!

On Saturday and Sunday, we’re excited to welcome special guests from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Osmia Bee, and Miami University, who’ll be sharing cool science and conservation stories from around the Cincinnati region. Be sure to stop by their booths to learn more about Ohio’s wild bugs and the people working hard to protect them!
