International Bird Rescue with a Side of Egg Transport

Posted May 20, 2026 by Cody Sowers

What do rescued seabirds, California, Cincinnati, and Delta all have in common? My latest installment of conservation adventures!

For over the last five years I have been able to support the International Bird Rescue through our Lindner Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife’s (CREW) internal conservation grant. This year, our grant was selected for a site visit, and I am never one to turn down a trip to my old stomping grounds. Thanks to the fine folks over at CREW for their continuing support of this fantastic organization!

On top of working on site with IBR in Los Angeles, this trip also included a quick visit to the San Diego Zoo to pick up a clutch of white-breasted cormorant eggs.

With the arrival of eggs from the San Diego Zoo, a foster pair of our own white-breasted cormorants are currently sitting on two of the eggs. More are in the process of hatching behind the scenes! The adoptive parents are doing everything that they should at this moment, so fingers crossed that will continue!

Look for our new family unit at African Penguin Point on the beach viewing area. Be sure to give them a little space, they are very protective.

Thanks again to CREW for the opportunity to visit IBR, and thanks to the Zoo and Team Bird for always supporting bird conservation!
