It’s a GIRL at the Cincinnati Zoo!
Help Name the Baby Giraffe
CINCINNATI,
OH (April 5, 2011) – It’s a GIRL! The baby giraffe, born Saturday, April 2 at the Cincinnati Zoo is a girl! Now, she needs a name. Name suggestions will be accepted on the Zoo’s Facebook page through this Friday, April 8, at which time the Zoo’s giraffe keepers will pick their favorites.
“Obviously we’re excited to have a thriving, healthy calf with excellent parents,” said Thane Maynard, Executive Director of the Cincinnati Zoo. But now that we know ‘it’ is now a ‘she’, it’s time to give this little girl a name.”
Mom (Tessa), dad (Kimba) and the calf are doing well and are spending this bonding time resting, nursing and getting to know each other. The family is currently spending time in their indoor stall at Giraffe Ridge. Zoo visitors can view the family through windows and/or a live-feed color monitor set up on the viewing deck, beginning Tuesday, April 5. It will still be 2-3 weeks before the calf is introduced to the outdoor exhibit.
