Horses on the Hill flipped the switch on new power source earlier today

“We’ve embraced solar power at the Zoo, covering both parking lots with arrays, and it’s important to us to share our expertise in that area with other organizations and neighbors so they can ultimately focus on their work,” said Mark Fisher, Cincinnati Zoo’s VP of facilities and sustainability.

This solar panel installation is part of the Zoo’s Community Solar Resiliency Program, which was launched to redirect utility savings into mission-critical work, build organizational capacity, and further serve communities in Avondale and the Greater Cincinnati area.

The HOTH project was a collaborative effort with Cincinnati Zoo and SonLight Power providing the panel materials and manpower, and grant funding from the Johnson Charitable Gift Fund and the City of Cincinnati Office of Environment & Sustainability’s inaugural Seeds of Change grant program, part of the Green Cincinnati Plan. B&J Electric provided critical electrical wiring and permitting services.

All partners were present, along with Mayor Aftab Pureval and State Representative Dani Isaacsohn, to celebrate the installation with a ceremonial lighting of the panels.
